Enrolling in Prep at Thangool

Enrolments are open throughout the school year.  A prospectus and the enrolment forms can be found on the school website or a hard copy can be collected from the school office.  Once completed, documents can be posted, hand delivered or emailed to principal@thangoolss.eq.edu.au

Thangool State School accepts enrolments from students living both in and out of the catchment area. To determine if your child is eligible to begin Prep, please view the Department's prep ready reckoner calculator .  Your child's proof of age is required upon enrolment.

If you are undecided in regards to where your child will be attending, please feel free to make an appointment to visit our school.  In the meantime, you may also like to add your details to our “Intention to enrol register", by doing this we can keep you informed of transition visits and updated on events, such as our community Under 8s Day and our monthly Playgroup activities.

Transitioning to Prep at Thangool

Transition is an important part of a child's moving onto school. At Thangool State School it consists of a series of events that orientate children and families to significant features of their new school environment.  Transition occurs at a specific points in time as part of the longer-term process of children's transition to school. The aim is to support every child to feel safe and secure and have a sense of belonging at school.  For an optimal transition, all partners — the child, the family, the early childhood education and care (ECEC) service provider, the school and the community — have a key role to play.

Transitions need to begin well before children start school and extend to the point where children and families feel a sense of belonging at the school.  The Transition program at Thangool establishes positive relationships between the children, parents and educators. Thangool wants every family to feel connected to all of our staff and school community, so we are able to build open communication and trust and are best able to be ready for your child.

Timing and Process

TSS transition to school activities occur throughout the year prior to children starting Prep. Through on-site visits, children and families are introduced to the people, processes, services, routines, expectations and the physical environment of the school.

  • A Transition morning is held once per term.
  • Term 2's Transition morning forms part of the Under 8's Day program

(Enrolment packages are also available to all families on this day)
  • Transition days are held on different days to ensure all children who attend ECEC programs have the opportunity to attend at least once during the year.
  • A formal parent interview is held in August
  • Reverse Kindergarten visits (Prep Teacher visits the Kindys) are conducted in Term 3 and 4
  • Kindergartens visits occur on Under 8s Day and during Term 4 (Dates are confirmed at end of Term 3)
  • An information session is conducted in late November for the in-coming cohort where families are provided with the routines for the beginning of the year, booklists and other essential documentation that will ensure a smooth start for the following school year. School uniforms will be available for collection and any further questions in regards to school operations can be clarified.
