At Thangool State School, we know that a supportive environment that combines a focus on wellbeing with a focus on learning is optimal — without one, the other will not happen (Department of Education, 2018).

Our aim is to provide learning experiences that support students to have confidence in the way they move through this world. We value developing real skill sets that support young people to make the kind of choices that will contribute to their health and well-being versus undermine it.

Our school aims to empower students to be kind, confident and reflective leaders that can effectively communicate to make healthy choices. We offer several learning experiences that support students to learn about themselves, work through solutions to problems and support their peers to be the best version of themselves.

At Thangool State School, we have taken a proactive approach in supporting the Health and Wellbeing of our students by offering a number of Social and Emotional Learning programs. These programs aim to support every individual to realise his or her potential, to cope with the normal stresses of life, and work productively and fruitfully to contribute to his or her community (World Health Organisation, 2014).

Health and Wellbeing goals:

  • Identify values and character strengths.
  • Increase self-confidence.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently.
  • Understand and set boundaries.
  • Dealing with the stress of peers and conflict.
  • Impact of social media.
  • Strategies to clear negative self-talk and limiting beliefs.
